Abbreviated PVC. A permanent communications circuit, created and maintained even when no data is being transmitted.
A PVC has no setup overhead and gives improved performance for periodic transmissions that require an immediate connection. Packets are transferred in order over a specific path and arrive at their destination in the same order.
