A recommended standard (RS) interface established by the Electronic Industries Association (EIA). Also known as EIA/TIA-449.
The standard defines the specific electrical, functional, and mechanical characteristics used in serial binary data interchange, and it is often used with synchronous transmissions.
RS-449 may be implemented using a 37-pin or 9-pin DB connector; the accompanying illustration shows a DB-37 male connector.
