1394

An IEEE standard for a digital plug-and-play bus, originally conceived by Apple Computer in 1986. The 1394 standard supports a maximum of 63 nodes per bus and a maximum of 1023 buses.

Three speeds for device connections are available:

All devices are hot pluggable, and both self-powered and bus-powered devices can be attached to the same bus. Also known as FireWire, 1394 uses six-pair shielded twisted-pair cable and is intended for high-end applications such as digitized video.
