Statistics - Cases Filed in District Court

Crime reports are filed in the County Attorney's Office by state and local law enforcement agencies such as the Coffey County Sheriff's Department; Burlington City Police Department, Lebo, LeRoy and Waverly City Marshals; Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Wildlife and Parks, Kansas Department of Agriculture; and by federal agencies who uncover evidence of state crimes, such as the Drug Enforcement Administration; Immigration and Naturalization Service; Federal Bureau of Investigation; and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The Coffey County Attorney reviews several hundred law enforcement reports each year. Some reports are returned to the initiating agency for additional investigation, others are declined due to insufficient evidence. Most crime reports, however, result in the filing of criminal charges or other legal action.
