Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste Disposal
at the Coffey County Construction & Demolition Landfill (CDLF)

Coffey County has just opened a new landfill designated solely for construction and demolition (C&D) waste! C&D waste is defined as waste that is generated from a construction or demolition activity and is further defined below. Because many of the materials involved in construction and demolition (i.e. shingles and scrap lumber) do not pose a great threat to the environment, they may be disposed of in a less regulated landfill, separate from the Subtitle D facility at the Coffey County Landfill.

Waste Screening

Only acceptable C&D waste may be placed in the CDLF. Each load will be visually screened at the scale house to determine if it is acceptable for disposal in the CDLF. Waste that does not qualify as C&D waste (see checklists links below) must not be placed in the CDLF, but may potentially be disposed of in the Subtitle D facility at the Coffey County Landfill. Waste disposed in the Subtitle D portion of the facility will be charged accordingly.

If unacceptable waste is observed and cannot be disposed in another permitted location of the Coffey County Landfill (i.e. it is hazardous) the driver will be supplied with the following contact information to determine an alternative disposal location:

KDHE - Bureau of Waste Management:    (785) 296-1600

The driver will not be allowed to dump unauthorized waste at the Coffey County Landfill unless authorized by the KDHE - Bureau of Waste Management.

It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that waste is disposed of in a proper location, whether that be the CDLF, the Subtitle D facility at the Coffey County Landfill, or an alternative location suggested by the KDHE-BWM. Coffey County reserves the right to impose a fine for illegal dumping.

Fees

The following fees will apply to C&D waste disposed of in the CDLF:
In County:       $12.50 per ton, minimum $5.00
Out of County:       $21.50 per ton, minimum $7.50
