Coffey County Register of Deeds
The Register of Deeds Office is where all transactions having to do with land, including liens and mortgages, are recorded and maintained so that the public is made aware of their existence. This is also a place where financing statements and security agreements are filed on personal property under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). Military records are filed if brought to the office for safe keeping, at no charge, according to statute, and school census records from the former County Superintendent's office are kept and maintained in the office. The Register of Deeds office is a recording agency and therefore cannot make out legal documents or answer those questions which pertain to legal matters. Filing Fees
If the name or names of the signer or signers of any notary public to any instrument to be recorded are not plainly typed or printed under the signature affixed to the instrument, the Register of Deeds shall charge and collect a fee of $1.00 in addition to all other fees provided in this section.
According to Kansas law, no instrument is to be filed for record until the fee is paid. |
