Jail Information

Visitation

Visitation at the Coffey County Jail is held on Sundays from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Each inmate is allowed only 20 minutes of visitation per week. Anyone wishing to visit may do so as long as the inmate consents to the visit. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Approved Items

The only item inmates may receive at the Jail is cash unless prior approval from the Head Jailer or Sheriff is obtained. Inmates must have at least $10.00 in their account before purchasing items from the commissary.

Jail Life

Inmates are furnished with an orange, two piece uniform, bedding and hygiene items. Only in special cases are inmates allowed to keep their own clothing in their cell.

Jailers do periodic checks on the inmates to ensure no problems exist. They feed the inmates three times a day. They take the inmates to the exercise room which consists of book carts, a television and a picnic type table. When necessary, the Jailers take the inmates to the doctor or dentist. Jailers escort the inmates to court when required.

The Jail is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days a week. When a prisoner is brought to the Jail they are processed. If the charges are bondable, they are given the opportunity to do so before being placed in population. If they are charged with a felony, they are held in Jail until they have the opportunity to see the judge unless a bond has been previously set.
