CrimeStoppersHistory of CrimeStoppers In 1976 a police officer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, disturbed by an increasing number of unsolved crimes and the steadily climbing crime rate, developed the idea that became the nucleus of the present CRIMESTOPPERS program. What Is CrimeStoppers? Gathering clues is the goal of the CRIMESTOPPERS program. A clue is information which leads to an advancement in solving a crime, and often comes from a concerned citizen. CRIMESTOPPERS provides a means of communication, encouraging citizens to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies. Successful in over 300 locations across the country, CRIMESTOPPERS offers an effective way to involve citizens in fighting and preventing crime and drug abuse in their communities. What Are CrimeStoppers' Goals? We offer assistance to all law enforcement officers in Coffey County. We offer financial rewards for information which leads to recovery of stolen property and the confiscation of prohibited drugs and narcotics. We contribute to the overall reduction of crime and criminal activities in all of Coffey County. How Can You Be A CrimeStopper? Any individual with knowledge of a crime can call 620-364-2252 and leave a recorded message 24 hours per day. It is vital that if a recorded message is left, if you desire to become eligible for any reward, personal telephone contact be made with the CRIMESTOPPERS Coordinator during the hours listed on the recording. The numbers for this are 620-364-2123 or 1-800-362-0638 for long distance callers. This is the only way to insure that if a reward is earned, it will be paid to the proper person. You should identify yourself to the dispatcher as a CRIMESTOPPERS Caller so that you may remain anonymous if you wish to. All informants may choose to remain anonymous. If the information given to CRIMESTOPPERS leads to an arrest, or in the judgment of the CRIMESTOPPERS Board is of benefit to the community, then a cash reward of up to $1,000.00 will be awarded to the informant.
